tricia & john the romance…

telling tricia and john’s story is one of our all time favorites to share…we often say ‘it’s more than just photography to us’ and this story will share just how true this is.

when we first met them we had arranged their consultation at the beautiful La Quinta Resort & Spa where they were to be married the following year. Tricia was behind finishing signing the contract for the resort so john came ahead to meet us. we could tell from the moment we met he was an established professional, however, once he sat down his first words to us were ‘i dont’ like photographs, i am not interested in them, i will never look at them, i am doing this for tricia, just wanted you to know’….well Steven and I thought, it’s not uncommon for most men to not be as interested in photographs, but john seemed a little more disinterested than most men….then tricia arrived. Poised and professional, simply beautiful clearly put together and organized, her first words to us were ‘photographs are the most important thing to me’…she went on to explain how as a young child their home had burnt down and they had lost all their precious family images. Steven and i knew at this point we had a mission…how can we bring john not only into being interested in photographs but to a point where these amazing couple could share in this experience with the same enthusiasm?

as we went over the packages, it was clear that john did not want to do the romance session, photographs on the wedding day were more than enough, we worked towards ‘reducing the time’ and encouraging him on how the experience would enhance the results on their wedding day. we explained how it gives us the opportunity to see how they fit together as a couple, what their comfort level is and they can see how we work together…so on their wedding day they won’t be nervous in front of the camera it will be like second nature. John agreed with the help of tricia to a 1.5 hour session (wink, wink).

we began right away asking john what his favorite things to do were…they had recently purchased second home here in the desert and were at the finishing stages of construction so john explained that he liked to go to starbucks and then head to home depot to look at finishes that they might like to have in their new home. fabulous we said…’what else do you like to do?’ john went on to tell us how he loved fishing, perfect we said….lets do all of your favorite things. we could see the surprise in his face and relief that we were not having a sears portrait session!   you will have to follow along below to see how we managed to photograph for 4.5 hours with a man who didn’t like photographs and see how it all went.
couldn’t be more of a walk in the park…they had the place to themselves…. simply a date….love is beautiful tricia was loving it…..now on to home depot shopping can be very romantic…if you let it. even in the paint department tools and tape measures have many uses…
construction can be very passionate….
having a little fun is always part of the plan tricia is so stunning and playful… we had a special surprise planned for john as he is such a BIG home depot  fan…we had arranged for an apron…this in itself required an act of congress, we had to have security for him just to try it on, you can not see this but there was staff and management close by…those aprons are guarded…. look at the surprise on his face…it was beyond priceless and a highlight of their day……plus he got the girl love this moment…..we always say shopping is a date too

next we went fishing, john had asked if he could actually go and get some bait first, we said sure we will meet you there…….
how romantic is this…makes me wanna go fishing… what we haven’t mentioned is that tricia actually caught a fish within the first few minutes of having her pole in the water….not only did she catch one fish, not long after she caught another… these two can make fishing look like fabulous… this must have been when tricia caught the second fish…she looks quite proud.. too much, love it… these next few are some of our favorites…..enjoying the moments together crazy cute…. love the way the sun flare is coming through and the line had just gone out and the mist is coming up from the splash…..

now on to what tricia had dreamed about…..by this time, john is nice and relaxed and we are able to capture some amazing images of the two of them to cherish….. gorgeous together…. a little dance..a little walk in the park… love these….. i think she is flirting… looks like it worked… tricia looks so cute here being admired….always nice to have a few individuals…. great setting….. talk about passionate….. love these types of moments….

this one became one of our absolute favorites, not because it’s the absolute best image, but because john looks so happy and tricia looks filled with love and joy at all the future holds…it was perfect way to end their session….tricia was so happy and we loved getting a text from them after the images released “you made a grown man and woman cry….” well we couldn’t finish the rest of the text without us crying, we did it, we brought them together and made memories they never thought  they would have…this is what makes us love what we do more than ever….life is just about these little moments.

enjoy more of their story…
